SQL/R A.04.20 Installation
This document covers the installation of SQL/R A.04.20 and/or update from a previous SQL/R release.Supported platforms
SQL/R A.04.20 is supported on the following platforms and operating systems:
- Linux

The SQL/R A.04.20 release supports 64-bit Linux environments on
64-bit Intel/AMD hardware (x86_64, amd64)
Linux distributions RHEL 8.5, SLES 15SP3 and Ubuntu LTS 2020 were tested and are supported along with newer versions.Experimental support for Eloquence on the 64-bit ARM platform is available from the deb repository.
The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports 32-bit Linux distributions. While 32-bit applications are fully supported a 64-bit operating system is required.
- HP-UX

HP-UX 11.31 on Itanium hardware. This version no longer includes any
PA-RISC driver libraries for use with the Aries emulation.
Please let us know if you require the SQL/R PA-RISC drivers on Itanium.
The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports PA-RISC hardware and HP-UX versions before 11.31.
- Windows

The SQL/R A.04.20 service is available for 64-bit (x64) Windows and supports
both 64-bit and 32-bit applications.
Supported minimum versions are: Windows 10 or newer, Windows Server 2016 or newer.
The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports 32-bit Windows installations. While 32-bit applications are fully supported a 64-bit operating system is required.
Installation directory
Starting with SQL/R A.04.00, multiple SQL/R versions may be installed and used in parallel. Each major version is installed into a separate directory while minor updates will update an existing version. SQL/R A.04.20 is installed in the 4.2 subdirectory.
The installation procedure retains the configuration of a previous SQL/R release. Modified configuration files are retained and not deleted when uninstalled.
- Linux and HP-UX
- The SQL/R A.04.20 software is installed in the /opt/sqlr/4.2
directory, configuration files are in /etc/opt/sqlr/4.2.
When updating from a previous SQL/R version, any configuration files need to be copied manually. A symlink may also be used as configuration files are fully upwards compatible.
Please note: Previous SQL/R versions before A.04.00 created a symlink /opt/sqlr to point to /opt/sqlr2. This symlink is removed during the installation.
- Windows
- By default, SQL/R A.04.20 is installed in the "Program Files\Marxmeier\SQLR\4.2"
directory.
The Windows installation program has the option to migrate the previous configuration files and/or remove the previous SQL/R version.
License keys
SQL/R A.04.20 requires a license key version A.04.20 or above. A previous license key for an older version does no longer work.
A license key must be obtained to use the SQL/R server components. No license key is required to use the ODBC Driver to connect to another server system.

For the Linux platform SQL/R provides yum and deb package repositories to make it easy to install and update Eloquence on a variety of Linux distributions. Please refer to the Linux installation documentation for details how to install from a repository for a specific Linux distribution.
