This document covers the installation of SQL/R A.04.20 and/or update from a previous SQL/R release.

Supported platforms

SQL/R A.04.20 is supported on the following platforms and operating systems:

Linux
The SQL/R A.04.20 release supports 64-bit Linux environments on 64-bit Intel/AMD hardware (x86_64, amd64)
Linux distributions RHEL 8.5, SLES 15SP3 and Ubuntu LTS 2020 were tested and are supported along with newer versions.

Experimental support for Eloquence on the 64-bit ARM platform is available from the deb repository.

The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports 32-bit Linux distributions. While 32-bit applications are fully supported a 64-bit operating system is required.

HP-UX
HP-UX 11.31 on Itanium hardware. This version no longer includes any PA-RISC driver libraries for use with the Aries emulation. Please let us know if you require the SQL/R PA-RISC drivers on Itanium.

The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports PA-RISC hardware and HP-UX versions before 11.31.

Windows
The SQL/R A.04.20 service is available for 64-bit (x64) Windows and supports both 64-bit and 32-bit applications. Supported minimum versions are: Windows 10 or newer, Windows Server 2016 or newer.

The SQL/R A.04.20 release no longer supports 32-bit Windows installations. While 32-bit applications are fully supported a 64-bit operating system is required.

Installation directory

Starting with SQL/R A.04.00, multiple SQL/R versions may be installed and used in parallel. Each major version is installed into a separate directory while minor updates will update an existing version. SQL/R A.04.20 is installed in the 4.2 subdirectory.

The installation procedure retains the configuration of a previous SQL/R release. Modified configuration files are retained and not deleted when uninstalled.

Linux and HP-UX
The SQL/R A.04.20 software is installed in the /opt/sqlr/4.2 directory, configuration files are in /etc/opt/sqlr/4.2.

When updating from a previous SQL/R version, any configuration files need to be copied manually. A symlink may also be used as configuration files are fully upwards compatible.

Please note: Previous SQL/R versions before A.04.00 created a symlink /opt/sqlr to point to /opt/sqlr2. This symlink is removed during the installation.

Windows
By default, SQL/R A.04.20 is installed in the "Program Files\Marxmeier\SQLR\4.2" directory.

The Windows installation program has the option to migrate the previous configuration files and/or remove the previous SQL/R version.

License keys

SQL/R A.04.20 requires a license key version A.04.20 or above. A previous license key for an older version does no longer work.

A license key must be obtained to use the SQL/R server components. No license key is required to use the ODBC Driver to connect to another server system.

Please refer to the SQL/R A.04.20 license key documentation for additional details.
